Boundaries ....What defines us?

We are all in the image of the God we worship. This is what we have all been told since the day we are born. Therefore at birth my religion, faith and country is decided.
My question, Is my boundary; my country or my religion? My identity is my country or my religion? My faith I would believe will include my character too? This confuses me, what is my boundary and my identity?
To me being human and living peacefully anywhere is this world would be my identity and boundary. But then many would choose to disagree with me on this. As religion and nationality is what defines us in judging other people.
But just think for a minute what defines us?
Let's do a test. In a room there are people from all over the world, they speak different languages and practice different religion. They all do know sign language too. There are two conditions for them to interact with each other. They cannot reveal their country of origin or religion. They must communicate via sign language. What do you think would be the outcome?
If we remove language, country and religion will they all be the same? Being human what we are suppose to be?
I don't know as I have not done this test but would love just to understand what is it that defines us in boundaries.
Two years ago, I had an amazing experience which prompted me to write this blog. I was sitting at a cultural festival of Thailand in Bülach, Switzerland. We were having a great evening and I realised there was a woman starting at me. She looked very familiar and I thought she too found me familiar and was trying to figure out if she knew me. After 2 hours, she finally walks up to me and asks me if I am Brazilian? As she is from Brazil and she thinks I am from her country. Much to her disappointment I had to tell her no I am not from Brazil. She apologised and left. I saw the disappointment on her face and voice. This made me thinking, here is the woman married to a Swiss with a very sweet little girl in Bülach and was looking for a familiar face from her country.
What is it about us, we travel the world, settle somewhere else but then somewhere we get home sick. I mean we can make a home anywhere in this world but somehow we miss our country of origin. We miss our culture, talking in our language, eating our food etc etc. Is this our boundaries and identity? Our country?
Then why have we divided ourselves based on religion?
Our religion other than love and being human can it be anything else? Man made power houses are defining us today. We don't even know our own identity than what we want.
Think and do let me know what defines you? What is your identity?
