"Light does not come from light, but from Darkness" beautifully said by Mircea Eliade.
As it is said, all stars are born in darkness and all darkness dies in the light. Light and darkness two sides of the same coin or is it that within light resides darkness and vice versa?
We all look for goodness within us and each other why? Is good the perception we get from bad?
Then why are we so scared of darkness and most important why do we hide or shy away from our own dark side?
We have grown up with the concept that darkness is evil and light is good. Strangely its in the darkest sky we see the brightest star.
We all know that at a given time there is always darkness over the planet. The planet is always half light and half dark and so are we. There is a dark side to each of us. The question is how many of us have come to terms with our own dark side and how many have buried it deep inside? Some try to be too good while some let the darkness take over them completely.
Light and dark are two completely different things but we need both of them. For too much light burns us and while in darkness we cannot see. But together we have shade. Thats the nature of us beings. Once we come to terms with our both sides we balance our life accordingly. We need both in small doses to live.
Many years ago, during meditation i got very sacred. My subconscious had risen my dark side and i was scared and sweaty. What i felt and experienced is beyond my understanding. I tried my best to bury it deep down me as i felt pure evil rising inside me. That was my understanding at that time. Till the time i met my teacher who told me to meditate further on these fears and dark side of mine. Acceptance is the only way to balance light and dark. It has taken me more than a decade to balance both. Darkness in me is my resilience , assertiveness with no fear which i require for my existence, while the light in me is compassionate and kindness to people. I need both. We have many faces of darkness and its for us to channel these thoughts and power to better use.
Maybe when human beings started imagining life, as this is our biggest gift for our evolution "Imagination". We imagined light being pure while dark being evil. Maybe through this mindset we also made social and racial boundaries. I am not a professor of evolution or imagination but this seems the most logical concept to my understanding. We learnt quickly that if we showcase our dark thoughts openly, we will be shunned from society, therefore our deepest dark secrets got buried within our subconscious and our mind was free to imagine all sorts of things and control us.
Balance of Light and Dark gives "Soul" control over our thoughts. That makes imagination futile many times and shades of grey vanish slowly as imagination gives wings to shades of grey in our thinking. I have written many times right and wrong is in our mind and what perceptions have been mapped on our mind.
So if we have both sides within us, what does it say about us? We are not holy, neither we are evil.... we are humans and we live life through our mistakes. We've all got both Light and dark side within us. What matters is the part we choose to act upon.
As human's the most powerful thought we have is hope. And as many scholars and motivation guru's repeatedly have said that "In midst of darkness, the light persist". When we feel desperate, frustrated, and feel no way out, we have all heard this one saying repeatedly " There is light at the end of the dark tunnel". That light is within us. When we feel our dark side over powering our thoughts we focus back on our light side. That's what's known as balancing both. We have to learn to live with them . Just like Lunar power cannot live without solar power similarly we cannot live without these two sides.
There is a beautiful quote by Rick Beneteau " It's rather easy to shine in the light, but to glow in the dark.. that's mastery!
It is usually in our darkest times when we challenge our limits, when we transform to survive and when we create hope for others.
Life gives birth to both light and darkness, its for us to choose and act upon.
